Nursery (Birth to Age 3)
Our team of volunteers provide care for babies and toddlers during our worship services, playing with and caring for them in our nursery. All our volunteers have successfully completed a Vulnerable Sector Screening check carried out by the Halton Regional Police.
Two change tables are available in the church—one is in the nursery and a second one is in the accessible washroom located on the first floor. The nursery also houses two rocking chairs that can be used for nursing.
Young Children and Worship (Ages 3 to 9)
Young Children and Worship is a curriculum that seeks to help children experience God rather than just acquire knowledge about Him. Through sensorimotor learning, children are invited to touch the stories of the Bible, engage with them, ask questions, and reflect in deeply personal ways about what they are hearing and seeing.
We start by telling our story and joining together with a song. Then, after a time of personal reflection, and maybe even arts and crafts, the children return to the circle to hear the story again, this time read directly from the Bible. YC&W is all about making connections—with God, ourselves, and each other!
One of our favourite features of this curriculum, however, is the way that it mirrors weekly worship. Stepping away from the long held tradition that Sunday school ought to mimic nursery school, YC&W is modelled instead on the exact same flow of worship we adults experience in the sanctuary. Children are welcomed and “called to worship” (“The Lord be with You”, “And also with you!”), and they will learn to sing (and sign!) simple hymns to help them get ready to be with God. They’ll pray, hear God’s word, respond, and even enjoy a weekly Feast (snack time) that mirrors the liturgy and practice of Holy Communion.
All of this effort is made to help create worshippers and theologians! When children find themselves in “big church” on Sunday morning, you’ll be surprised at how familiar they will suddenly seem with the ebb and flow of the worshipping life of the church. It really is amazing to experience.
Echo the Story (Ages 9 and Up)
We help kids aged 9 and up explore the Bible in a deeper way through the Echo the Story curriculum. Echo the Story is an imaginative way to engage in the Bible using storytelling, creative reflection and dialogue. This approach helps students to discover meaning and identity in the biblical narrative. We will take an in-depth trek through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, helping students to find themselves in the greater story.
Each of the 36 sessions starts with a video, and then a Bible story as students use their sketch journals in order to think about the story from their own perspective. The journals encourage drawing, writing short stories, and other exercises that they can work through. For more information, check out the program page.
