The Easter season is a busy one at Kerr Street Mission, and it puts a huge demand on the Kerr Street Food Market (the food bank). By the time Easter is over, the shelves are getting very bare, and the weeks that follow Easter don’t usually generate many donations.
That’s where Knox is stepping in. For every Sunday in May, we’ve selected food products that are most in need at the Kerr Street Food Market, and on that given Sunday we encourage you to come to church and “stuff the sanctuary” by filling the Chancel with as many of those food products as possible.
Our goal as a church community is to raise 2,500 lbs of food in the month of May. This will provide the most vital items that are rarely donated or in stock in the Market.
By stuffing our sanctuary every Sunday in May, we will be stocking shelves that have gone bare at the Kerr Street Food Market over the Easter season.
Our donation schedule is as follows:
- Sunday, May 5: Rice, Dried Beans and Lentils (Bulk)
- Sunday, May 12: Peanut Butter, Flour, Sugar
- Sunday, May 19: Canned Fruit, Vegetables and Pasta Sauce
- Sunday, May 26: Toilet Paper, Soap, Deodorant and Shampoo
An update will be provided in the bulletin every week so we can track how many pounds of food we have collected towards our goal, and to remind you of what next week’s items will be. We look forward to the challenge and to seeing our sanctuary stuffed full of food!
