In the wake of the heartbreaking mass shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand, we feel a need for lament and prayer. Our doors are open today to other members of our community who wish to come and pray, too.
Places of worship should never, ever be places of violence or fear. We agree wholeheartedly with the words expressed by Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches: “This terrible crime against women, men and children at the time of their prayers is an attack on all believers and an assault on the bonds of shared humanity and peaceful coexistence which unite us all.”
We stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters. We are praying for justice and peace, and for the victims, families, and communities shattered by this violence.
