At Knox Oakville, pastoral care takes place through Christian Caring Teams made up of elders and lay people.
Christian Caring Teams
Every member and adherent associated with Knox has been placed in one of the caring teams.
Each caring team includes a team leader, elders and and lay people with special gifts for Christian caring.
Collectively they make sure that efforts are made to contact each member and adherent assigned to their team, thus ensuring that pastoral care is extended to all who would like to receive it.
Team leaders are responsible for providing leadership and support to the members on their teams.
They make sure that each team member has been screened and follows the “Leading with Care” policies of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
They facilitate team meetings at which they support each other and discuss the effectiveness and best practices of their caring.
They arrange for specific training to equip and enable team members as needed.
Each team member is responsible for making initial contact with the people in their district. They are to determine from each person how—and how often—they would like to be contacted.
You can choose to connect by e-mail, text messaging, phone calls and/or personal visits. Each person can decide how they would like to stay in touch.
Team members are responsible for keeping in touch with you.
The congregation is all of us. We all need to do our part to ensure that everyone is receiving care.
This means getting to know the team member assigned to you. If you do not already know who this is, please contact the church office or Lynne Hieminga, the team coordinator.
It means letting your team member or the church office know if you or anyone in your family is experiencing illness, a loss or other difficult time, as well as letting us know of events such as births, hospitalizations, special birthdays, and anniversaries.
Please do not assume that we already know something. It’s better to hear about something several times than to not hear about it at all.

At Knox we want to ensure that the whole congregation, all those who receive care, and all those who offer care are well informed.
We are open to suggestions, new ideas, concerns or celebrations.
