We’re moving out of the Gospels now and into the Epistles, or letters, written to the earliest communities of faith. Around 50 C.E., the very first Christian congregation in Europe was established by the Apostle Paul during his second missionary journey. Today we are hearing the first part of his letter to his beloved congregation in Philippi. Famous for its themes of joy, gratitude, and celebration in the gospel, the first chapter of Philippians is as encouraging to us today as it was to its original recipients. And it stands as a continuous reminder that our faith is NOT a solo-act, but is rather a life-long group project, team sport, a partnership… in the gospel.
